Post-Brexit changes for European customers (not incl. UK):

For European Union based customers (as well as those in the European single market countries of Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland) please be aware that there has been a significant change to importing from us as a result of Brexit (a very regrettable act in our view).

Value Added Tax (aka VAT, sales tax or GST) and any other import duties will now be the sole responsibility of customers who we ship to in Europe. This is now the same as it always has been for our customers based outside Europe. These charges will be collected by the courier before they deliver – they usually send an email with an online bill and payment link.

Please see the table above as a guide for what VAT charges you can expect if you are receiving your order in Europe. Please note that the figures in it are taken from the most up to date sources that we could find but we take no responsibility for any more recent changes made by destination countries. Additional 'administrative' import duties may also be charged in addition to VAT, but we have unfortunately not yet been able to gather reliable information about what these might be. Please check with your government for the most up to date VAT rate and customs duties information.

Brexit import changes explained:

Before Brexit no import duties or taxes were charged to our European customers when they bought from us, as we are based in the UK. This is because trade within the EU and single market borders was counted the same as within one country. So our customers in Paris could buy from us the same as if they had ordered from a shop in Marseille or Berlin.

However, because the UK is no longer part of the EU and its single market, VAT will now be charged to European customers. This tax goes to the government of the country in which the order has been delivered. It is the sole responsibility of European customers when we ship to them and it will be charged at the normal rate of VAT in the customer's country.

We have always stated that any import duties and taxes are the responsibility of the customer – this is standard for e-commerce businesses and our loyal customers in other parts of the world have always had to be responsible for them. However we fully appreciate that this may present a big change for our many hugely valued European customers. To be honest, we are deeply saddened by these changes as well as the many other shifts that Brexit has brought about. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to send us an email at info@rubyjacklondon.com and we will do our utmost to help.
